Biography

John Massey is the Assistant Director of Professional Development with University Organizational and Professional Development. In this capacity he supports the ongoing research, design, facilitation, and evaluation of professional development programs for Virginia Tech faculty and staff.

John’s professional qualifications include twenty years of human resource learning and development leadership experience supporting several Fortune 500 companies (including Dell, Inc., Wachovia Bank, N.A., US Airways, Inc.), and is the former president/owner of the Charlottesville, VA human capital consulting firm - Performance Training & Development, Inc. Additional prior experience includes work with Lee Hecht Harrison as a Career Services Consultant, and with CareerBuilder.com™ as a contract resume writer.  

He has earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation, is a Certified Practitioner of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) Step I™ and Step II™ Instruments and has received certified instructor designations from both Development Dimensions International (DDI) and PCI Global, Inc.  His educational background includes a B.S. in Business Administration from High Point University and an M.A. in Education, Curriculum, and Instruction from Virginia Tech.  John is currently a PhD candidate in the Educational Psychology program at Virginia Tech.
