Bio
John Massey joined Virginia Tech’s University Organizational and Professional Development (UOPD) department in the role of Assistant Director of Professional Development in September of 2009. In his role John’s responsibilities include a focus on providing and expanding staff professional and performance development opportunities, consulting services, managing the implementation of UOPD’s CourseWhere™ training registration system, and supporting the research, design, delivery and evaluation of Virginia Tech’s professional development programs.
John’s professional qualifications include 20 years of Human Resource Learning and Development leadership experience with many Fortune 500 companies in the Airline, Banking, Real Estate, Financial Services, and Technology sectors. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, John worked for Dell, Inc. in Austin, TX where he managed a global team of instructional designers and technical training delivery professionals. In addition, his background includes roles as a former human capital development consultant and owner of Performance Training & Development, Inc. (Charlottesville, VA), as the HR Vice President / Director of Training with Saxon Capital, Inc. (Glen Allen, VA), as an Assistant VP of Human Resources with Wachovia Bank (Winston-Salem, NC), and as the Training Director with US Airways (Winston-Salem, NC).
John has also worked with Lee Hecht Harrison as a Career Services Consultant and with CareerBuilder.com™ as a contract resume writer. He has received certified instructor designations from Development Dimensions International (DDI) and from PCI Global, Inc., is a Council Member with Gerson Lehman Group’s Business Services Council, and is a long-time National Member of the American Society for Training and Development.
John earned undergraduate degree in Business Administration from High Point University and is currently pursuing a Master of Education (Ed.M.) in Human Resource Development from the University of Illinois.
