Target Audience: Virginia Tech classified and university staff.
Program Summary: A Virginia Tech design team in partnership with New River Community College (NRCC), has created 2 Career Studies Certificates.
Classes are taught on campus during normal work hours and include customized instruction for adult learners. Participants must obtain approval from their supervisors to attend classes during their regular work schedule. Registration fees cover both the cost of tuition and any book(s) required for the class. Classes are offered during both Spring and Fall semesters.
NRCC awards certificates to participants completing the below classes in either (a) the Fiscal Practices track or (b) the Human Resources practices track. Once all necessary classes have been completed, attendees will need to apply for graduation with NRCC.
Virginia Tech will also recognize its employees' accomplishments with a framed certificate. To receive the AEC in Human Resources Practices certificate from Virginia Tech, participants must attend the non-credit VT Human Resource Management short course.

| ACC 219 | Government & Non-Profit Accounting | 3 | Introduces fund accounting as used by governmental and nonprofit entities. Stresses differences between accounting principles of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Prerequisite ACC 212 or equivalent. |
| ACC 195 | Best Practices for Internal Control | 3 | This course will replace the ACC 241 Auditing. Studies internal control design and evaluation, evidence-gathering techniques and other topics. |
